Tokyo-Seoul

Looking for great Sushi? Take a quick trip over to Pullman and visit Tokyo-Seoul. They are on E.Main St. near the main entrance to WSU. As the name suggests, they specialize in a favorite cuisine: Sushi, with a menu loaded up with other Japanese and Korean dishes as well.

Open at 11 am to  10 pm. Daily, my favorite time to visit is for an early lunch, when it’s usually the owners on deck. They are very attentive here. The chef/owner is old school in the best way and his partner/wife runs the front with a sense of humor. Some Yelp reviews say it’s the best best Japanese/Korean food on the Palouse and I agree. Their offerings are made fast, fresh and delicious. I prefer in house dining but they do a brisk take-out business. Just type “Tokyo Seoul” in your browser and tap Order Online, or call (509) 332-6223. For Appetizers try an order of Sunomono: cooked shrimp or octopus (yes, octopus) with the special sauce, or any of their Tempuras; Seafood is my fave, and  the Veggie is so light and crispy, the Kimchi Pancake is a tasty  Korean alternative  and for those who like hot-the Fire Bomb is a must: fried Jalapeno with a tasty cream cheese, crab and spicy tuna stuffing. The gyoza (dumplings), the Avocado boat (crab & spicy tuna salad on ½ an avocado) and the Akedashi Tofu are other great appetizer options. You can’t go wrong with any of their salads! Try the Chicken Katsu Salad for a great add on protein. Now, onto Sushi! The Maki Roll selections are delicious. However, my heart’s been won over by the Specialty Rolls! They are almost too abundant in choice! Top picks for raw purists are the Cherry Blossom, Geisha, Playboy  and Rainbow Spiral Rolls. The Hollywood, Lion King, Playboy, Red Dragon and Rattlesnake Rolls are for those that like tempura infused Rolls. The Japanese entrees are first rate as well. Chirasi (Japanese for scattered) is sushi rice with sushi ingredients “scattered” on top. They have Udon (thick noodles) and Yakisoba (thin”fried noodle”) different proteins (my personal favorite is the Chicken Yakisoba), Bento boxes(a variety of items), as well as Katsu (fried cutlets of pork, chicken or fish. They also feature Curry,  the Katsu Curry is a winner. The Korean items are led by Bulgogi and the Ribeye Beef, Bokum is Korean stir fry, Galbi is short ribs and there are hotpot style-soup entrees of different spices and ingredient profiles. Any and all are sure to please, ask the waitstaff  explain the differences.  Lastly they also have Vietnamese Pho which I haven’t had the pleasure of sampling yet (all in good time). So, if you’re looking for tasty and authentic Japanese and Korean dishes or simply want a change of pace, head over to Tokyo Seoul in Pullman, they are the real deal. Enjoy!
